About the Project

The Herndon Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Herndon name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Herndon name.

As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Herndons), by time period (18th Century Herndons), or by topic (Herndon DNA, Herndon Occupations, Herndon Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

Hi! May I be added to the Herndon Name Study project, please? I have taken a Y-DNA test so it might be useful to other Herndons out there. Thank you!

Added you to the study. You can add research pages and add the category to profiles, etc, as part of this study.

THanks, Natalie, ONS Leader

I found Robert's father a Robert himself born 1791 to James K Herndon, DNA helps. Spread it around to Gedmatch and my Heritage.

Hello, My brick wall is Addie E. Herndon. On the marriage license to my great-grandfather (Harvey F. Schuler, March 1901 in Savannah, GA) she is listed as Mrs. Addie E. Herndon which indicates to me she had been married previously. I cannot find the actual marriage certificate so they may not have formally married. I find two Addie Herndons listed in the 1900 census in Savannah. I have been able to disregard one based on research. The other Addie is listed as married in 1897 to Harry F. Herndon (born in South Carolina 1872) with a daughter Ada (born in Georgia in July 1891-possibly 1897?) 8 years old (possibly 3 years old based on transcriptions). I have not found Harry since then. I think this might be her although I know of no Ada, nor does she show up in any further records. Addie is listed as born in June 1875 (in Georgia) which is what is on her gravestone. Someone linked her to Evander A. Hernadon (born 1877 in Georgia) so that now comes up in all searches but I'm not convinced that it is her. I'm hoping to find information on Harry F. Herndon and what happened to him to see if his Addie is still with him. I'd like to find my Addie's family. Thank you, Sue
